Early beginnings of sheep breed improvement: 1978

We have recently come across an archive of old Department of Agriculture records pertaining to early sheep improvement initiatives in the late 1970’s. This archive contains some interesting photographs, one of which is included below. According to the note on the rear of the photograph, the image was taken in 1978 on the farm of Mr. J.H Jameson, Rockspring, Ferns, Co. Wexford. There is also a reference to the Average Daily Gain of the flock, which is recorded as an impressive 1.07lbs per day (0.485 kgs/day). No details are supplied on the management of the lambs. If anyone has any further information on these sheep, we would love to hear about it at [email protected]
