This year as part of the Central Progeny Test (CPT), Sheep Ireland is mating a proportion of the ewes naturally. Twelve ram lambs were purchased from pedigree breeders that fit the required criteria. The main criteria for selection was a very high Replacement Index and no previous CPT bloodlines in the ram lambs. Over the coming weeks we will share the details of each ram starting with Alepat Dominik, pictured above.
Alepat Dominik (IE043671202654G, CQI2002654) is a ram lamb that has been selected and purchased for natural mating on James Napers flock in Co. Meath. Alepat Dominik is a triplet born lamb bred by LambPlus breeder Alex Clarke . All relatives in his ancestry tree are DNA verified with the majority of his ancestors genotyped (with the exception of his paternal great grand dam). This parent verification and genomic evaluations have contributed to the high accuracy of his genetic evaluations. Alepat Dominik’s sire is FOUNDRY ACHILLES and grand sire is GREENHILL YEMEN BOY and both these rams boast high accuracies of over 80% and have high €urostar Index’s in both Replacement and Terminal Indexes.
