Sheep Ireland Sale – Final Preparations

  • The Annual Sheep Ireland €uro-Star Multi-Breed Ram Sale takes place on Saturday 26th of August in
Tullamore Mart at 12noon. This year we have our biggest entry ever with over 330 entries in total. The final
numbers are not yet finalised, but as we stand today the breed breakdown is as follows:

    • 15 Vendeen
    • 65 Suffolk
    • 126 Charollais
    • 28 Belclare
    • 8 Rouge
    • 1 Beltex
    • 90 Texel

  • Entries will be finalised on Monday 21st August, which is the final day for substitutes and withdrawls.
Breeders are reminded, that if animals are catalogued and the breeder does not present them on the day of
sale, that breeder will not be allowed to enter this sale in 2018. This decision has been made in order to
deliver the best possible sale to ram buyers and to reduce any disappointment caused by certain lots not
appearing for sale. Our late deadline for substitutes and withdrawls is designed to facilitate breeders making
last minute withdrawal or ram substitute decisions.
  • Due to the very large sale entry, there will be two Sale Rings in operation.
    •  Sale ring 1 (Sold in this breed order) – Vendeen, Suffolk, Rouge, Beltex & Texel.
    •  Sale ring 2 (Sold in this breed order) – Charollais & Belclare.
  • Our final sales catalogue will be on our website by Tuesday 22nd August. All rams will be 5
Star on the Terminal or Replacement index. Minimum accuracy of 35% is required. The breeders Data
Quality Index (DQI) needs to be at least 60%. The flock needs to have carried out Ultrasound scanning in
2017. A thorough physical inspection will be carried out on all rams entering the sale. This high criteria
will hopefully be attractive to farmers and draw them to the sale on the day!
  • This sale is an extremely important event in terms of promoting and growing the level of performance
recording in Ireland which will ultimately be a good thing for the entire sheep industry.
