National Sheep Breeders Association (NSBA) Championships

Sheep Ireland attended the inaugural NSBA Championships in Cillin Hill Mart in Killkenny last Saturday. The day proved to be a great success with over 700 sheep on show. We gave a quick demo on the free LambPlus App that is now available to breeders including how it can be synced up with an EID reader. This greatly speeds up the process of taking weight and health information and is currently being used by our 4 CPT flocks as well as our two technicians who are using it to record ultrasound scanning info on Pedigree flocks across the country. See here for more info about our free App.

Kevin McDermott gave a live Demo on the differences between a one-star and a five-star ewe and spoke about the advantages about using EuroStar indexes. He also explained that before you pick a ram, first you must decide what his job will be, to produce replacement females or factory lambs. Then you use the €uroStars to help you find the ram that most suits your system.
