All roads lead to Tullamore Mart tomorrow Saturday 25th August for the Sheep Ireland Ram Sale which kicks off at 12 noon. Sheep Ireland Technicians will be there from 9:00am to inspect rams upon entry. This year has seen the highest number of entries in the sale on the provisional catalogue to date, with the finalized catalogue hitting close to 330 animals. There are 9 different breeds entered in the sale this year including Belclare, Beltex, Charollais, Hampshire Down, Llyen, Rouge, Suffolk, Texel and Vendeen.
All these rams have met the required criteria set out by Sheep Ireland with all rams having 5 stars in either their Replacement or Terminal Index, with 35% or over accuracy on the qualifying index, a Data Quality Index (DQI) of 65% or over, Ultrasound Muscle and Fat Scanned in the year of birth, genetically linked in their respective breed and finally they will need to pass the ram inspection carried out by Sheep Ireland Technicians on the day of sale.
The criteria above makes this years ram entries genetically elite in their respective breeds. All breeders, commercial and pedigree across the country are welcome to what is expected to be a great day in the sharing genetic progress of sheep in Ireland.
