Finalist for the “Highest Achieving LambPlus Flock 2018”: Patrick F Holland – Turlough Charollais (F71)

The Turlough Charollais Flock was first established in 2008 and has been participating in the LambPlus program since 2014.

In 2018 Patrick has accumulated a very impressive DQI of 93%. To achieve this, Patrick has recorded numerous different weights for his lambs throughout the year, as well as very accurate Lambing data such as Lambing Difficulty, Lamb Mortality and Birth Weights. This accurate data is contributing to the €uro-Star evaluations of Patricks Flock.

In the past, Patrick has submitted rams to the CPT Program, as well as sharing his stock rams with other breeders. This will ensure that Patricks flock is linked to the Central Hub, which means his flock will be evaluated against other flocks and receive more accurate evaluations. In 2018 Patricks Lambs had an average Replacement Index of €1.35 and an average Terminal Index of €0.94, while having an average accuracy% of 40%.

Patrick is always striving for improvement in the flock ‘We are consistently trying to improve the genetics of the flock with the use of AI on our most productive ewes’. Two traits that Patrick place great emphasis on are easy lambing and good growth rates.

Turlough Turbo, a home bred ram, laid the foundations for the genetic gain Patricks Flock would make in the initial years of being a LambPlus Member. Turbo has 5 stars on both Indexes. The ram that really drove the genetic gain in Patricks Flock is Lisfuncheon Notorious. This ram is a past CPT Sire and has been used in the RamPlus Program also. He carries 5 stars on the Replacement & Terminal Index.
