Áine O’ Brien, a Phd student in Teagasc Moorepark gave a presentation in session 1 of day 1 at the ICBF & Sheep Ireland Genetics Conference which took place on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th December 2018 in the Hudson Bay Hotel, Athlone. The health index is having more and more importance in genetic evaluations and this was evident in Áine’s presentation. Phenotypes such as daginess, lamesness and mastitis are heritable, meaning the prevalence of these phenotypes can be passed onto offspring.
