Inbreeding, barrenness rate and genetic improvement updates

Sheep Ireland hosted an annual industry meeting on Thursday, April 29th at 1 pm. This one-hour online meeting covered some of the primary outcomes of research that has been undertaken in the last year and what impact it will have on the national evaluations.

This research is part of an ongoing effort to improve the accuracy of the genetic evaluations to benefit Ireland’s national flock. The results of studies, the impact they have on the national sheep breed improvement programme were presented and questions were invited from you and other key industry stakeholders.

The Irish Farmers Journal have written an excellent summary piece of the most significant updates presented on the day and is well worth the read to get up to speed on the latest Sheep Ireland genetic evaluation improvement updates. Click here to read the article in full.
