Winner of Highest Achieving LambPlus Flock 2022 – Liam & Eoin Dunne, Belclares, Tubber

Sheep Ireland held their Sheep Ireland Breeding Conference & Farm Walk on July 12th 2022. A highlight of the conference for many is the award ceremony where Sheep Ireland acknowledge the hard work and dedication of farmers all across Ireland improve the genetics of their herds and flocks, not just for themselves but for their customers and the wider industry. There were two sheep awards up for grabs on the day, one for the “Highest Achieving LambPlus Flock 2022” and one for the “Most Improved LambPlus Flock 2022”. The event was very well attended with a great mix of people from all sections of the Irish agricultural industry as well as a number of attendees from overseas.

Well done to winners, Liam & Eoin Dunne, Belclares, Tubber of the Highest Achieving LambPlus flock at the. Christy, Liam & Eoin Dunne, received a cash prize of €1000, an engraved trophy, certificate and bragging rights for the year ahead. The two other finalists, Sarah & Michael O’Neill and Liam Delaney received a cash prize of €500 and a engraved award and certificate. FBD kindly sponsored the LambPlus awards. Flocks were selected based on a number of criteria including the genetic merit of the flock based on the Replacement & Terminal Index, the DQI of the flock and the Accuracy of the breeding values within the flock. These awards are to acknowledge the effort and contribution that these breeders are making to the National Sheep Industry.
