Sheep 2015

Sheep Ireland are on site in Teagasc Athenry today (Fri 19th) in preparation for tomorrows major sheep event. There will be a range of attractions to cater for all sheep enthusiasts. The themed villages will be one of the main attractions and this is where Sheep Ireland will be involved in the Breeding Village and the Hill Sheep Village. On display our stand will be some CPT ewes and lambs, kindly provided to us by CPT farmer Andrew Moloney, Edenderry, Co. Offaly. We will outline how 5Star sires are delivering in terms of Maternal performance.

We will also participate in a live workshop in association with Teagasc advisor Edward Egan. The aim of this workshop will be to illustrate to farmers how best to use the sheep €uroStar evaluations. All aspects of the Sheep Ireland programme will be up for discussion and we will be inviting as much interaction from farmers as possible.

Other big attractions on the day will be the very large pedigree sheep exhibition area. All breeds will be represented here. Some are using the event to host their breeds national shows, others are simply having a presence with stands. It’s certainly a great opportunity for farmers to see the best of all breeds. Cookery and butchery demonstrations, trade stands, sheep dog trials are among the many other features that will no doubt draw a huge crowd.

Texel Young sheep breeders

Last Saturday (13th June) Sheep Ireland was invited to present to young Texel sheep breeders from Ireland and across the UK on the farm of Texel breeder Billy Dillon from New Ross, Co. Wexford. This event is a great way for young breeders to build relationships and share expertise with others with the same interest.
