How to record lambing events and lambs information using the Sheep Ireland online services
Recording lambing contributes towards your DQI. In order to maintain your DQI score, aim to record lambing events within 2 weeks of the lambing date.
Once signed into your LambPlus account, select the ‘Lambing Management’ screen, from here you can identify the ewe which you wish to record a lambing event on.
It is important to note, if you are creating older animals, they should be created through the ‘Add Animals’ screen instead.
Once the ewe is selected, you can record her lambing status, it is important to also record ewes which were barren or aborted lambs.
From there, you will imput the following information regarding the lambing event;
- Date of lambing
- Sire of offspring – if mating was previously recorded on the selected ewe, a suggested sire will appear. If this is not the correct sire of the offspring, it may be inputted manually.
- Lambing difficulty
- Ewes milk
- Mothering ability
- Number of lambs born
Criteria for scoring on lambing difficulty, ewes milk and mothering ability are all outlined in breeders lambing notebook.
Once the lambing event is recorded, it is vital you save your information.
The following information about each of the lambs must be recorded;
- Birth Status
- Sex of the lamb
- NSIS
- Pedigree ID (only necessary for pedigree animals)
- Birth weight
- Lamb vigour
Again, it is essential to save the information recorded once complete.
