Collection of CPT 100 Day Weights

This week we started organising and collecting the CPT 100 day weights, two flocks were completed this week with the remaining three flocks being recorded next week. This information will be flowing into the genetic evaluations over the next few weeks and will be having a positive effect on the accuracy of the bloodlines for the rams involved. It is important to remember that these weights are also feeding back to all rams that were ever in the CPT, as the majority of ewes that lambed down this year are now bred by CPT sires. These weights will also be telling us how the ewes performed and this will be fed back into the replacement index of their Sires

Ultrasound Scanning

We continue to visit flocks that have put forward their flocks for ultrasound scanning. Lambs must have an official NSIS recorded on the Sheep Ireland database and actually be tagged before a flock can be set up for scanning. In the last week we have visited 17 flocks and we hope to increase this number once the CPT 100 day weights have been completed. We would ask flocks that are not scanning this year to record a weight on any lambs still on the farm between 121 and 180 days of age.
