Weekly Update: 23/03/18

CPT Lambing is now coming to an end

We are approaching the end of our CPT lambing period for 2018, with just Brian Nicholson currently lambing the last of his CPT ewe’s. For the other flocks involved we will now go through their data and ensure that all normal reared lambs, fosters, pets and dead lambs have been recorded on the database prior to us running our first genetic evaluation. All lambs (alive and dead) had a DNA sample taken at birth and these will be processed prior to being sent to the lab. Considering the challenging conditions experienced over the past few weeks we are relatively happy with how the lambing period has gone. We wish to thank everyone involved for their hard work and dedication in getting to this point, as it would not have been possible without them.

Genomic Services

Over the past few months breeders have been ordering DNA sampling kits for animals in their flock. These samples are sent to the lab to be genotyped 3–4 times a year. We will be soon sending our next batch of DNA within the next 4-6 weeks. We would advise breeders who have yet to return DNA samples to do so shortly so they can be included in this batch. We will confirm a date in the coming weeks.

LambPlus App now available

Sheep Ireland are very excited to announce that our new ‘LambPlus’ Data Recording App is now available to LambPlus breeders click here for further information. This is still in a testing phase so breeders should record information with caution and check the website regularly to ensure that their information is being uploaded correctly. Sheep Ireland will not be held responsible if data uploaded through the App is lost.
