Weaning Weights on CPT Flocks

This week Sheep Ireland started collecting the 100 day weights from CPT lambs on the farms of Brian Nicholson and Andrew Moloney.

As part of the Sheep Ireland evaluations all lambs should be weighed between 66 and 120 days of age, with the target of having the majority of lambs as close to 100 days as possible. The average age of lambs weighed so far is 97 days old, with an average weight of 32.2kg, making it an ADG of 280g/day, with ewes averaging 77.8kg. Over 2000 ewes and lambs have been weighed, Body Condition Scored, Dag scored and had any incidences of lameness and mastitis recorded via our new LambPlus App. We will continue the collection of 100 day weights (weaning weights) over the next week to ensure they are all weighed within the correct age bracket.

See the video to help get an idea of the scale of data being collected. All of this information is flowing back in to the genetic evaluations and increasing their accuracy.
