David Coen spoke on behalf of Salesian Agricultural College in session 1 of day 1 at the ICBF & Sheep Ireland Genetics Conference which took place on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th December 2018 in the Hudson Bay Hotel, Athlone. Salesian Agricultural College joined Sheep Ireland in 2016, with the objective to find out which animals in their flock were the best and the worst performers. David mentioned that they AI’d their ewes using CPT sires and this is what gave them the platform to assess the genetics of the ewes against ewes in other flocks around the country. It was also mentioned that performance recording using the LambPlus App proved to be an efficient technology. In his presentation, David also outlined the flock gain since 2015 (since joining LambPlus), referencing the replacement and terminal index’s.
