The FBD Five-Star Ram Lamb LambPlus Classes are a unique opportunity for farmers to see the best genetics from each breed going head-to-head.
The Classes will take place at Sheep 2023, which is being held at Gurteen Agriculture College on Saturday, June 17th.
There are two Ram Lamb Classes, a Replacement, and a Terminal Class. All Rams must be Five-Stars on the relevant Index and from a flock with a DQI of 60% or greater.
The Replacement Class will look for the rams that will pass the best physical attributes desired in breeding female replacements, and the Terminal class will focus on selecting rams with the best carcass characteristics, all the while being ranked in the Top 20% of the breed based on genetic analysis.
FBD has kindly sponsored each class with a Prize Pot of €1000 each. First Prize for each class is €350, with prizes all the way to 6th place.
The Judge assigned the very difficult challenge of selecting the winner is Matthew Prince from the UK. Matthew breeds Texel, Beltex, and Charmoise at his farm in Derbyshire, as well as running a Butchers shop, so it’s fair to say he has lots of experience in his hands.
This Class is open to all LambPlus Flocks with a DQI of greater than 60%. The LambPlus Classes are free to enter. A ram can only enter one of these two classes.

Entries for the class should be emailed to [email protected] by Monday the 12th stating the rams tag number and the class you would like to enter.
